A CLOSER LOOK INSIDE

Ceramic - Stage One

Arkwater.com's DoultonŽ ceramic is made from Diatomacerous Earth (D.E.) material fired to above 1000 degrees Celsius.  D.E. is a fossil substance, made up of very small silicon shells left by trillions of microscopic, one celled algae, called diatoms.  Thousands of overlapping ceramic pores make up each DoultonŽ filter element.  This feature provides absolute mechanical filtration to 0.9 of a micron with 99.999% rejection of harmful bacteria and water-borne cysts.  Harmful bacteria and any other foreign particles as small as 0.2 of a micron are trapped on the outside of the element while the water passes through the ceramic wall to the inside of the element.  

The entire DoultonŽ ceramic wall is impregnated with oligodynamic silver which is permanently locked within the ceramic structure.  The silver acts as a bacteriocide and prevents harmful bacteria from growing inside the ceramic structure.

The Core- Stages Two and Three

Inside the ceramic shell is a post filter which is manufactured by combining a metal ion reduction medium, granular carbon and powdered carbon to form a tightly packed matrix.   This post filter can provide two key features:  Chemical Reduction (chlorine, pesticides, solvents, etc) and Heavy Metal reduction (lead, iron, aluminium, etc.)
